Christmas Plants & Flowers Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is Poinsettia the UK’s favourite Christmas plant?
Poinsettia is the UK’s favourite Christmas plant due to its vibrant red bracts that burst into colour in late autumn and last throughout winter. It’s a popular choice for Christmas decorations and makes the perfect festive gift. At Boma Garden Centre, we stock the highest quality Poinsettias in London.
2. Can I get Poinsettias delivered?
Due to the fragile nature of Poinsettias and their need to be kept warm, they are available for collection only at Boma Garden Centre. We encourage you to visit us in Kentish Town to choose the perfect Poinsettia and take it home in the best condition. Our team will be happy to help you select one and provide care advice.
3. How do I care for my Poinsettia over Christmas?
Poinsettias are sensitive to temperature, so keep them away from cold drafts and central heating. Place them in a warm room with indirect light, maintain a constant temperature between 13-16°C, and water only when the compost feels dry.
4. What is a Christmas Rose (Helleborus) and why is it special?
The Christmas Rose, or Helleborus, is a compact clump-forming perennial with large pure white flowers and yellow stamens that contrast beautifully with dark green foliage. It blooms throughout winter and is perfect for outdoor containers, tubs, and baskets, adding festive charm to your garden.
5. How do I care for Amaryllis over the Christmas season?
Amaryllis requires a spot with indirect light and should be allowed to dry out between watering. Dormant bulbs will flower 8 to 10 weeks after planting. Keep them in a cool, dark place until the green shoots appear, then move to a warmer, brighter spot.
6. What care does Cyclamen require over winter?
Cyclamen thrives in a cool, bright spot with indirect light. Keep it on a windowsill and ensure the temperature stays above 10°C. Deadhead flowers by twisting and removing the stems completely to prevent rot.
